ভুয়া তথ্য ও প্রতারণা প্রতিরোধে প্রবাসী সাংবাদিকদের ভূমিকা শীর্ষক এক আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে কুয়েতের আব্বাসিয়ার মোজাম্মার স্কাই টাচ ট্রাভেল এজেন্সির হল রুমে। শুক্রবার (২৮ জুন) বাংলাদেশ প্রেসক্লাব কুয়েতের আয়োজনে অনুষ্ঠিত এই সভায় কুয়েতে অবস্থানরত সাংবাদিক ও সামাজিক সংগঠকরা অংশ নেন।
আলোচনা সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন বাংলাদেশ প্রেসক্লাব কুয়েতের সভাপতি ও সময় টিভির কুয়েত প্রতিনিধি বিশিষ্ট সাংবাদিক মঈন উদ্দিন সরকার সুমন। অনুষ্ঠানটি সঞ্চালনা করেন ক্লাবের যুগ্ম সম্পাদক ও যমুনা টিভির প্রতিনিধি মোঃ হেবজু মিয়া।
সভায় সভাপতির বক্তব্যে মঈন উদ্দিন সরকার সুমন বলেন,
“একজন সাংবাদিক হিসেবে প্রবাসীদের কল্যাণে তথ্যভিত্তিক সংবাদ প্রচার করাই আমাদের দায়িত্ব। আজকের এই সময়, যখন সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমে প্রতিনিয়ত ভুয়া তথ্য ও প্রতারণামূলক বিজ্ঞাপন ছড়িয়ে পড়ছে, তখন প্রবাসী সাংবাদিকদের আরও দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকা পালন করতে হবে।”
তিনি আরও বলেন, “ভিসা জালিয়াতি, ফ্রি আকামার প্রলোভন, ইউরোপ পাঠানোর নামে প্রতারণা এবং কুয়েতের আবাসন ও আইনি জটিলতা নিয়ে অনেকেই প্রতারিত হচ্ছেন। এসব বিষয়ে সত্যনিষ্ঠ ও যাচাই করা প্রতিবেদন প্রকাশ করে প্রবাসীদের সচেতন করা এখন সময়ের দাবি।”
সভায় প্রবাসীদের অধিকার আদায়ে ঐক্যবদ্ধ কণ্ঠস্বর গড়ে তোলার আহ্বান জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন,
“প্রবাসীদের অধিকার আদায়ে প্রবাসীদেরই একসাথে দাঁড়াতে হবে। সাংবাদিকরা এখানে ভূমিকা রাখতে পারেন জনমত গঠনের মাধ্যমে।”
আলোচনায় গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বক্তব্য রাখেন—
বক্তারা বলেন, বর্তমানে তথ্যের সঠিকতা নিশ্চিত করাই সাংবাদিকতার মূল চ্যালেঞ্জ হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। প্রবাসীদের জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রের সমস্যা ও সম্ভাবনা তুলে ধরতে সাংবাদিকদের আরও সক্রিয় হতে হবে।
সভায় কুয়েতে অবস্থানরত বাংলাদেশ প্রেসক্লাবের আন্তর্জাতিক সম্পাদক সেলিম হাওলাদারের সুস্থতা কামনা করা হয়। পাশাপাশি প্রয়াত সাংবাদিক শরিফ মিজান এবং মোঃ ইয়াকুবের আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনায় বিশেষ দোয়া পরিচালনা করা হয়।
অনুষ্ঠানে আরও উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ সাংবাদিক ইউনিয়নের সভাপতি নাছির উদ্দীন খোকন, গাজী টিভির প্রতিনিধি আলাল আহমদ, দৈনিক সরেজমিন বার্তার প্রতিনিধি এইচ এম এরশাদ, স্কাই ট্যাচ ট্রাভেল এজেন্সির টিকিটিং অফিসার মহসিনসহ প্রবাসী বাংলাদেশি সাংবাদিক ও গণমাধ্যমকর্মীরা।
সভাটি ছিল অত্যন্ত আন্তরিক পরিবেশে অনুষ্ঠিত এক গুরুত্বপূর্ণ মিলনমেলা, যেখানে শুধু আলোচনা নয়, প্রবাসীদের বাস্তব সমস্যার প্রতিফলন ও সমাধানের লক্ষ্যে সাংবাদিকদের একযোগে কাজ করার অঙ্গীকার ছিল স্পষ্ট।
Overseas Journalists Urged to Combat Misinformation and Fraud – Discussion Held by Bangladesh Press Club in Kuwait
Kuwait Correspondent: A discussion titled “The Role of Expatriate Journalists in Preventing Misinformation and Fraud” was organized by the Bangladesh Press Club Kuwait on Friday afternoon at the Sky Touch Travel Agency hall in Abbasiya, Kuwait.
The meeting was presided over by Moin Uddin Sarkar Sumon, President of Bangladesh Press Club Kuwait and Kuwait Correspondent for Somoy TV. The event was moderated by Md. Hebzu Mia, Joint Secretary of the Press Club and Jamuna TV Correspondent.
In his presidential speech, Moin Uddin Sarkar Sumon emphasized the vital role of journalists in safeguarding the rights of expatriates and raising awareness about fraud and fake news.
“As a journalist, I always try to publish factual reports for the welfare of expatriates. At the same time, I encourage fellow journalists to do the same,” he said.
He further stated that social media is currently flooded with fake news and misleading advertisements, which are deceiving many expatriates. He stressed the importance of publishing verified news to build awareness and counter these threats.
Sumon also highlighted the issues of visa fraud, false promises of free residency (iqama), unverified job offers to Europe, and misinformation about Kuwaiti immigration laws—urging journalists to cover these topics more extensively.
“To protect the legitimate rights of expatriates, they must raise their voices in unity. There is no alternative to collective awareness,” he added.
Several key figures also spoke at the event, including: A.H. Jubed, General Secretary of the Press Club and Bangla TV Correspondent, Jahangir Khan Palash, Vice President of the Press Club and News 24 Correspondent, A.K.M. Azad, Editor of Probas Bangla,
Moyazzem Hossain, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Cricket Association Kuwait. The speakers echoed that today’s challenge in journalism lies in ensuring the accuracy and responsibility of information. They called for more in-depth and solution-based journalism for the expatriate community.
During the event, the journalists present collectively prayed for the speedy recovery of Selim Hawlader, International Secretary of the Press Club, currently undergoing treatment in Kuwait. A special prayer was also offered for the late journalists Sharif Mizan and Md. Yakub, seeking peace for their departed souls.
